Guys, I was just laid off and have efiled i539 3 days after the termination date for a status change to F2. Now working on the application letter. Do you think I should mention the layoff in the letter?
If I do mention it:
Con: The layoff might quickly catch the eyes of the immigration officer and if he want to check my status, he could find out the 3 days OOS.
Pro: My previous job was well paid. By mentioning it, I give the reason that why I want to stay at home as F2 instead of keeping the well paid job.

I entered US through Logan on Dec 12th, 2007 and got i94 till Nov 2010.
When I applied for SSN at Norwood SSN office, they told me that the immigration dept have to cross verify my visa details and confirm them back which is still not done. Without SSN, Payroll is not generated. I have to return back to India in next 1 week. Can someone let me know the contact info of immigration people. Is this common thing to happen or i need to fight it out Any input will be appreciated. Thanks

I'm moving from MI to TX and need to do something address. Does premium mail forwarding service works for USCIS notices? I know regular mail forwarding doesn't work and they'll be returned to INS. Please let me know if premium service works or not.

If a company located outside of united states, it cannot apply for more than 300 H1B's? I heard WIPRO and INFOSYS applied 6000 each this year

Guys
Go to rite-aid & they are really cheap if you are looking to save some money.I went to Kinkos & the lady said it would cost around $65 for me & my wife ( 8 copies each ) , Now she herself suggested that I should save some money & try some other place like CVS, or Rite-Aid
I went to rite-aid & paid approx $15 for me & my wife ( 8 copies each )

to take appointment that close to the arrival date. What if your flight cancelled or delayed?
I know it will eat up at least 3 days of our vacation if we have to travel from hometown to these cities, but I feel we have to factor in while planing our vacation.
What is the best way to send the documents to the emabassy? I asked because I live in Ahmedabad and I am planning to go for stamping the very next day I arrive in India.

I had to open a new thread to get your attention to this. But it seems that the House Stimulus Bill passed this evening contains the 'E-Verify' . Incidently, when Sen. Menendez introduced the Visa Recapture Bill last year, he held the republican's at bay by not passing E-verify in the senate. If, E-verify is passed in the senate, then we will loose an important bargaining chip for visa recapture bill of any kind. Please read the info. below. You can also google e-verify house stimulus bill to get the latest.
Action step is to strip e-verify from the Senate Stimulus bill. Please see below.

The House Appropriations Committee made a serious mistake when it approved an amendment to the stimulus bill (the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) that would require all businesses and other public or private �entities� that contract to receive money from the stimulus package to use the flawed federal Basic Pilot/E-Verify program. This will not only delay use of stimulus funds, but will hurt millions of workers. It should be stripped from the bill.
The E-Verify provision in the stimulus will:
� Harm workers who are either falsely denied work or are targeted by employers abusing the E-verify program;
� Create substantial new burdens for businesses, especially small businesses, at precisely the wrong time;
� Send the wrong signal to new voters that the Congress prefers to play politics by enacting symbolic and ineffective immigration �enforcement� measures over serious and effective economic stimulus or serious immigration reform.
ACTION NEEDED
1. Call Speaker Nancy Pelosi (head of Democratic Leadership) at 202-225-0100.
2. Call Chairman Obey (chair of the House Appropriations committee) at 202-225-3365.
3. Call Democrats who sit on the appropriations committee if you live in their state.
4. Tell them:
� You are extremely disappointed that the E-Verify requirement was included on the Stimulus and you want the provision stripped from the bill.
� Including E-verify in the stimulus package completely undercuts the purpose of the bill and will only be counterproductive for American business, workers and the economy.
� Real solutions to our economic problems and immigration reform should be approached seriously and separately.
� The flawed E-Verify program�s database errors will wrongly workers their jobs.
FAIR (the Federation for American Immigration Reform) just sent out an alert to its very active network to call committee members in support of this provision. We need to counter their calls.

Mine is filed on Junly20, still my checks are not cashed yet.
After some analysis on receipt delay's and talking to some other senior members in this group here is my description.
Because of high volume of 485 applications USCIS deceided to hire some consultants.
USCIS gave some instructions to consultants. If 485 applications are 100% correct they are issuing
receipts. Other wise they are sending to 2nd level of verification.
even some of friends got receipts who applied on Auguest 17th.
The problems i seen in my application are
1) My H1 extension got expired before i send to USCIS. I did not enclosed my approval notice (when i post my application i did not received my approvals)
2) On 485 part 2 instead of choosing option 1 my immigration person selected option others and mentioned in that column becasue of I140 receipt number (SRC xxxxxx) i am eligiable for applying 485
i seens some other cases also who's receipt are delayed the did some other mistakes.
Experts please give me suggesstions because of above mentioned things is any problems to get GC or receipt numbers

H1B - LCA Related Issues - How can we save ourselves ???
I guess everybody know by now that ICE arrested 11 H1 workers(Yes , it is 11 H1 employees) mainly due to mail fraud/wire fraud, and these frauds are resulted due to the fact that these H1 employees are not working at LCA mentioned location.
Are these folks Employees or the Employers...??? I guess they are the employers..!!! but sure this is going to fall on EMPLOYEES too soon..!!! So, Make sure you have proper paper work from your employer, if not fight for the right paper work..!!!

Hello,
I have an unfortunate situation. My parents names are misspelled in the Birth certificate compared to the Passport parents name page. Do we need to submit the parents names page of the passport when we submit our documents for 485 ?? Please let me know if this will be a problem and if there is a work around for this ??
Also if I have a Birth certificate (with my actual full name - dated in 2007 though), do I need to submit the affidavits ??

dont confuse dated dob cert with the registration date...as long as the dob cert has the registraation date within 3 years or less, i believe, then u r ok...
